Premier League 2018/2019: Everton – Preview, Squad, and Signings

Everton, who invested big last season but did not reach the expectation at all… Not even close. Koeman got sacked and later the most boring manager in football was hired: Sam Allardyce. Big Sam saved the clubs contact but later left the club and therefore the board appointed Marco Silva, the former Watford manager to lead the club. Will miracles happen at Goodison this season?

Everton, the little brother of Liverpool had something really interesting going on last season. The club invested big in players like Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson, Southampton’s Cuco Martina, Malaga’s Sandro Ramírez, Burnley’s sensational central defender Micheal Keane, former Everton player and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford. The list goes on and the goalkeeper was perhaps the only signing that actually was worth the money. Sigurdsson, the former Swansea City, and Tottenham midfielder cost the club a nerve-wracking sum of £40 million with £5 million in potential add-ons. Let’s all agree that he was not worth those sums.

With Marco Silva in charge, the signings have this year been more thought through and with last falls wonder-boy Richarlison, the offensive midfield has improved a lot. Lucas Digne from Barcelona will improve the fullback position since Baines and Coleman are not what they used to be. Here on deadline day, it seems like the Colombian international central defender and World Cup star Yerry Mina will join the club on a permanent deal this afternoon. In relations to the signings, the club has both released and sold multiple players including Davy Klaassen, who was terrible last season, Wayne Rooney and the club sent both Williams and Mirallas on loan.

The team under new management will almost certainly be great at the beginning of the season and later lose some momentum. The team will end up in upper mid-table. 7th seems reasonable!
