Rafael Nadal´s tough test today

Rafael Nadal is the world number one player on the rankings and seeded number two in this year´s Wimbledon behind career rival and 8-time Champion Roger Federer. Today he is facing NextGen star Alex de Minaur from Australia and it can be a very tough test for Nadal.

Alex de Minaur is 19 years old and in absolute top form. The Aussie is into the third round of Wimbledon after reaching two straight gras court finals on the Challenger Tour in June. He won against players like American Taylor Fritz and fellow Aussie Matthew Ebden in straight sets on his way to the finals of Surbiton where he lost 1-2 to Jeremy Chardy of France. The week after he won the title in Nottingham, beating Daniel Evans 7-6, 7-5 in the final.

Rafael Nadal is one of the most successful players in Wimbledon history with 5 finals between 2006-2011. Since then Nadal has not reached passed the round of 16 at SW19 because of injuries, bad form and/or opponents playing the best match in their career against Rafa. Steve Darcis, Lukas Rosol, Dustin Brown where low ranked players beating Nadal and big upsets. A young Nic Kyrgios in 2014 was also a big upset and last year Gilles Muller made an amazing match beating Nadal 15-13 in the final set.

Alex de Minaur looks like a real threat to Nadal although Nadal is of course the favprite to win. Nadal is in his best form and looked really good in his second round match against Kukushkin. Kukushkin won easy against de Minaur last week in the first round of Eastbourne 6-1, 6-2. In January this year de Minaur won against Fernando Verdasco, Damir Dzumhur, Feliciano Lopez and Benoit Paire on his way to the finals of Sydney amd in Brisbane he won in straight sets against class players like Milos Raonic and Steve Johnson.
