US Open 2018 Draw Men’s Singles

TOP HALF OF THE DRAW – Nadal and del Potro predicted to meet in the semis

On the top half of the draw Rafael Nadal has a really good draw. In his opening match he faces countryman and former world number 3 David Ferrer. Ferrer is now 36 years old and ranked number 148th in the world and is no threat to Nadal at all. In the second round Nadal faces either Lukas Lacko of Slovakia or Canadian Vasek Pospisil. In the third round Nadal will face a bit of a challenge in Karen Khachanov of Russia or Gilles Muller from Luxembourg.

Fourth round for Nadal is probably Australian Open sem finalist Kyle Edmund from England and in the quarters is Kevin Anderson the best bet to be challenging Nadal. Last year Anderson lost in the final in straight sets to Nadal.

The semifinals is probably between Nadal and world number 3 Juan Martin del Potro. Last year del Potro defeated Roger Federer in the quarters and lost 1-3 to Nadal in the semis. Stan Wawrinka, Grigor Dimitrov and Milos Raonic are the big threats on del Potros quarter of the draw.

BOTTOM HALF OF THE DRAW – Djokovic and Federer in the same quarter

On the bottom half of the US Open 2018 Draw the 7-time US Open finalists Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are in the same quarter. Second seed Federer faces Yoshihito Nishioka in the first match and Frenchman Benoit Paire or a qualifier in the second. Aussie Nick Kyrgios is a severe threat to Federer in the third round. Kyrgios is 1-2 head to head with Federer and all 3 matches between the two have been decided in tiebreaks in the final set. If Federer comes through this challenge he might face Italian Fabio Fognini or South Korean Hyeon Chung in the fourth round and most likely Djokovic in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic has no big threats before the quarter finals but still has to beat Fucsovic, Troicki/Sugita, Gasquet and Pouille to reach a predicted 47th clash with Federer in the QF. The winner of this quarterfinal will probably face 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic or Alexander Zverev in the semifinal on the bottom half of the 2018 US Open draw.
