Soon, real soon, the thing we all have been waiting for will arrive. The World Cup. Even though the tournament isn’t until the 14th of June, let’s start with some international friendlies to get you warm in your clothes. Sweden vs Peru is the last friendly game for both nations until Russia and it is an interesting one as well. Both nations ended up in groups where they are not either favorite to win it or end up last in the group. Sweden will face Germany, Mexico, and South Korea in group H while Peru ended up with France, Denmark, and Australia. No easy groups exist in the tournament but sure, these are up there with the more difficult.
Sweden had a good qualifying run for the world cup. The Nordic country finished second in their group after France but before the Netherlands. The team later knocked out Italy in the playoffs. Impressive for a country that is rather famous for their ice hockey than football. Peru, meanwhile, did what was almost seen as impossible, they qualified from the South American group which is by many viewed as the toughest in the world. Even if the team had to secure their participation through playoff fixtures, their achievement is impressive.
For this friendly, both managers will most likely test different formation and see who is in the best form. It could be a dull fixture but the preparation before the tournament is important both for the fans and the confidence in the team. Even if the odds are lowest on a Swedish victory, this feels like it could a typical tieing game. The prediction is therefore on a DRAW. Next time we’ll see the teams will be in the first of at least three games in Russia. That’s really exciting!
