World Cup Russia 2018: Group C – Preview, Odds, and Predictions
Group C. The third group of the tournament and what an interesting couple of fixtures. The group consists of Europe’s France and Denmark, South America’s Peru and Oceania’s Australia.
France, what a team. Perhaps one of most star-filled teams of all time. Pogba, Griezmann, Giroud, Mbappe, Kante, Lloris etc. I could keep on all day almost. The French made it through a quite difficult group in the qualifiers. Together with Sweden and the Netherlands the team won the group and qualified for the tournament. The team’s performance has been from time to time a bit questionable. A draw against Luxembourg and a later loss against Sweden but the team surpassed to the World Cup and are predicted by a lot of people favorites to win the whole tournament.
Peru, the surprise from the South American qualifiers. This is the first tournament since 1982 for the nation. The previous FC Schalke 04 and now Lokomotiv Moscow player Farfan is the biggest star in the team. Interesting team and even though the team will have difficulties to advance from the group stages, it could possibly be an upset here.
Australia is not the team they used to be. 10 – 15 years ago, the team was interesting with multiple talents and with good, established players. With internal problems with the domestic football association and with multiple managers, the team will most likely end up last in this group. Aaron Mooy, the star in Huddersfield Town is the biggest star of the team but with the limited talent in the team, the only present team from Oceania, they should be satisfied if they manage to get any points at all in this group.
Last but not least you got Denmark. The small Scandinavian nation is having their golden generation as of now. With their golden boy, Christan Eriksen, one of the best players in the Premier League, the team will have a great chance of advancing to the knock out stages. Together with Chelsea’s Christensen, Red Bull Leipzig striker Poulsen, former Premier League winner Kasper Schmeichel (won with Leicester City), and Sevilla’s Kjaer, the team is an interesting bunch. Denmark has not have had the easiest of runs lately in qualifying for international tournaments but knocking out Ireland made the team a serious contender in this group. A good bet is on France winning the group and Denmark second. But with a poor performance from the Danes, Peru could have a serious chance of advancing to the knock-out phase.
