Now it is time for the small North African country Tunisia. The nation that is bordering with the Mediterranean sea will participate in their 5th tournament. The team appeared in the World Cup in 1978, 1998, 2002, and 2006 but have never surpassed the group stages. Tunisia is finally back and out of all countries, this is perhaps the nation that I personally think is the most interesting. The reason for this is that you not necessarily know that much about the team and its player. There is actually no superstar in the team or rather, there is not really any household names in the squad. For football nerds like myself, there are some familiar names. The squad includes Leicester’s Benalouane, former Sunderland, and current Stade Rennais FC striker Wahbi Khazri. Moreover, there are multiple young talents that reside in Ligue 1 in France. Will this be problematic for Tunisia?

Well, not necessarily. The presence of a megastar in the team could be a liability for any team. This is present in the Egyptian team now that Mohammed Salah is doubtful to recover from this injury before the tournament. His absence could inhibit the team more than him not being on the field. Their confidence could be ruined. Therefore, what could be viewed as something negative for Tunisia, could actually be their biggest strength.

In their friendly fixtures before the tournament, Tunisia has shown that they are a force to be reckoned with. The North African nation drew against current European champions Portugal and only lost 1-0 against Spain just a couple of days ago. Frankly, the team is extremely strong defensively and will be difficult to penetrate. If given a chance to counter-attack, the team could be lethal to any opposition.

Will Tunisia advance to the knock-out stages? The chances look slim but seriously, this could be a solid bet for an upset. It could really happen and hopefully, it will. It would be really interesting!
