Uruguay, the smallest qualified country from South America. With a population of roughly 3,3 million, the country has despite there relatively small size been extremely successful in the World Cup. The country hosted the first-ever tournament in 1930 and actually won it. Later the country won the 1950 tournament in Brazil. Bluntly, the nation is a force to be reckoned with even if the victories are from more than 60 years ago. But how has the team been performing the last couple of tournaments? Well, everyone remembers the disgraceful acts of Luiz Suarez from the 2010 South African tournament where he saved the ball with his hands on the goal line. What happened afterward devastated a whole continent when Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty. The last tournament the team lost against Colombia in the rounds of 16 with a 2-0 defeat. But this year, it might end differently.

In group A, the South American side is strong favorites. Being draw against host nation Russia, Africa’s Egypt and Asia’s Saudi Arabia, you could argue that this was the best draw for any team in the whole tournament. You would most likely be right. Uruguay should, with their sheer amount of quality players jog through this group. It should be noted though that due to their geographical location, the team usually are seen as underdogs. This has proved to be good for the team and now, when the team is strong favorites, what will happen? Will the team be able to cope with being favorites to win the group? Most likely yes and to bet on Uruguay winning the group is a solid bet.
