A battle of the Americas. Favorites Brazil and somewhat upset Mexico will face each other in the round of 16. Brazil did not lose a single game in the group stage (1-1 vs Switzerland, 2-0 vs Costa Rica, and 0-2 vs Serbia). In all honesty, no one was especially surprised by this. Perhaps the only surprise was that the team only scored 5 goals and conceded 1 goal. We all have the Brazil-Germany game printed on our membrane. Neymar has also not been the most prominent player in the team but rather Philippe Coutinho has shown why Barcelona paid about 90-100 million pounds for him.

Mexico though? The Central American team shocked the whole world when they outperformed and owned Germany in their first game of the tournament. The team later won against South Korean and was technically through from the group stage. A victory or a draw with Sweden would cement the first position but the team lost 0-3 against Sweden! That was a surprise and the team did not look like themselves. Only because Germany lost once again against South Korean, the team was through.

If I would stop jabbering about previous games, what will happen in this game? Brazil will be too difficult for the Mexicans and their curse of never surpassing the round of 16 will continue. Even if Brazil will win it, the Mexican team won’t quit without a fight and the odds that there will be more the 2,5 goals is a solid bet.
