Nigeria or the Super Eagles. The African nation has participated in five world cups and the latest was in 2014. Even if the team has been part of the world cup the best result they have managed to gain is advancement through the group and into the rounds of 16. That happened in 1994, 1998, and at the last tournament. Considering that Nigeria has the largest population in Africa, their results have perhaps not been as they should have had. But could this change this time around?

No. Of all the African countries, the Nigerian team is the nation that I’m the least excited for because I believe they will flop, pretty hard actually. I wouldn’t surprise me if the team will leave the tournament without gaining a single point. Why do I believe this? Well, the team is massively unbalanced. Sure, the team has an incredibly strong offense, Musa, Moses, Iheanacho, Iwobi are great. Ndidi in central defense has been one of the better players in the Premier League this season but the defensive line and goalkeepers are weak. This is the nations Achilles heal and will be the decisive factor that will determine the destiny of the Super Eagles. Usually, there is always a couple of players that perform extremely well during the world cup and later will be bought by some of the bigger clubs in Europe. Last tournament, James Rodriguez from Colombia did just that. Monaco to Real Madrid. While talking about N’didi, he could become this player in the tournament. The Leicester player was brought in to substitute N’golo Kante who moved to Chelsea. He has mastered his role in the Leicester team and I believe he will be the most important player in the Nigerian team in this World Cup.

Nigeria’s chances are minimal to advance from the group of death. The odds do not really follow my predictions so a bet on Nigeria to end last in the group or not qualify is sufficient. Sorry, Nigeria. This time around isn’t yours either…
